Make your date 'Just Like Heaven'

It's that time of year again.

Yep, you guess it ' Sweetest Day is just around the corner!

If you're on the ball, you've been thinking about date ideas to woo your significant other. I'm convinced Hallmark created this day to capitalize on those hopeless romantics out there, but the good news is that you don't have to be sucked into buying a dozen roses or a box of over-priced chocolates.

Why not consider the classic date, dinner and a movie? Take your sweetie out for a nice dinner (by college standards), say Panera, then out for a night at the movies.

You're probably thinking it's near impossible for a guy and a girl to agree on a movie, right? More than likely the girl will want to see the newest 'chick flick,' while the guy rolls his eyes in disgust. The newest action film seems more appealing than 90 minutes of Julia Roberts on the screen.

The solution here is a compromise: a movie that will please both the guy and the girl. 'Just Like Heaven' is the perfect fit with some big names, a clever plot and a great soundtrack.

One reason to go see this movie is the star-studded cast. What guy doesn't like a cute blonde like Reese Witherspoon? Not only is she attractive, but she can act as well. Witherspoon plays the female lead: a workaholic doctor named Elizabeth. Early in the film, Elizabeth gets in a car accident on the way to a blind date and remains on earth as a spirit.

Mark Ruffalo is equally as appealing to the female audiences. Ruffalo plays David, a lonely twenty-something bachelor who moves into his new apartment to find out he's not alone. After encountering Elizabeth in a confused state, the plot progresses as the two fall in love through trying to discover how she became a spirit.

In their quest to rediscover her identity, the two seek the help of an eccentric psychic, played by Jon Heder. Yes, Napoleon Dynamite as a burnt-out spiritual guru. Heder provides some comedic relief, playing his quirky character. Guys and girls alike will appreciate Heder's cameo.

Obviously, romance is a central theme in 'Just Like Heaven,' and plays a integral part in the development of the plot. But, this is not just another mindless chick flick.

Witherspoon and Ruffalo have an almost ethereal on screen chemistry. Girls will appreciate the mushy factor of this movie while guys will take delight in the fact that 'Just Like Heaven' isn't overly sweet. Don't worry girls. Your boyfriend won't walk out of the theatre with a toothache!

The soundtrack is one aspect that definitely enhances the overall quality of the film. A blend of pop, punk and alternative rock, the music will appeal to both genders. The opening song, a cover of The Cure's 'Just like Heaven' sets the mood for the movie. The classic Cars song 'Good Times Roll' is one of the more lighthearted songs on the soundtrack, while Beck fans will enjoy track eight, 'Strange Invitation.'

'Just Like Heaven' is the ideal mix of romance, humor and charm. New York Post review raves, 'Ruffalo and Witherspoon are a perfect comedic match.' Ebert and Roper gave it 'two thumbs up.'

Now in theatres, 'Just Like Heaven' is a great way to spend a fall evening with that someone special, for it is truly heaven-sent!
