'The Terminal' to act as new resource for students

Need to sell your philosophy textbook, your old lamp or even your car?

The Book Exchange and Virtual Market are just two features of the SGA's new website, http://terminal.udayton.edu, which was modeled after UD Portal and Virtual Orientation.

'The whole purpose is an online student community,' said Peter Puskar, Chief Information Officer for SGA.

Puskar said that the Book Exchange is SGA's alternative to udbooks.com, which was not created by SGA.

'A lot of people thought it was,' Puskar said. 'It was never an SGA-affiliated site.'

UD students can buy and sell textbooks and other items, and all they need is a Novell username and password to browse items for sale or post some of their own.

When selling, post a description of the item for a sale and a way any interested buyers can get in contact with you, Puskar said.

Another main feature of the site is the ability to join or start groups of organizations of which you are a part. Each group then has its own page on which to post announcements, publicize events or start discussions.

'It can save those organizations a lot of work,' Puskar said. 'Everything's all set up already; they just need to put in their information for the particular organization.'

The site also features surveys; there is a main survey on the homepage which anyone can take, and groups can submit surveys to be put on their own pages for only the members of that group.

Puskar said that the site provides reliable survey information because only UD students can login to take a survey, and users can only vote once.

There are message boards open to everyone to allow students to voice their opinions about what is important to them. Each group also has a message board for discussions relevant to the organization.

Most of the work on The Terminal is done by John Roy, Director of Information Systems.

Puskar is optimistic about the future of The Terminal, which he says has the potential to be very useful once more students know about it.

'It's very underused right now just because a lot of people don't know about it,' he said. 'That's the only thing that's really holding it back now.'

Suggestions about the features of The Terminal can be sent to sga@udayton.edu.
