-Fifteen scholarships for the 2006 Erma Bombeck Writers' Workshop (March 23-25, 2006) are available for University of Dayton undergraduate students. Student receiving scholarships will attend all workshop sessions (including meals) at no charge. Recipients will be required to provide a few hours of work to help make the 2006 workshop a success. Workshop sessions will be held in Kennedy Union and at the Dayton Marriott.

Workshop speakers include well-known authors, columnists and freelance writers, including Dave Barry (Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist), Bruce Cameron (New York Timesbest-selling author), Kristen Godsey (editor, Writer's Digest), Katharine Sands (literary agent) and Fred Rubin (TV sitcom writer/producer).

Workshop sessions focus on humor writing, human interest writing and publishing topics, including:

* Using stand-up comedy principles to punch-up humor writing

* Savvy marketing for authors

* Secrets of writing for magazines

* Writing for newspapers

* Breaking into television

Workshop scholarships are open to students of all majors. English and Communication majors are particularly encouraged to apply. Students will have the opportunity to meet and network with prominent authors and publishing professionals.

The deadline for applying for a scholarship is Dec. 16, 2005. Students will be notified in late January if they were selected for a scholarship.
