For those of you wondering what the bright yellow banners hanging from the light posts in KU plaza represent, they symbolize the arrival of UD's annual Marianist Heritage Month.
The month will consist of various events including speakers, luncheons and activities that will take place on campus throughout January and February.
'The overall purpose of Marianist Heritage Month is to celebrate and grow in the traditions that the University of Dayton Community is built upon,' said Co-Director of Marianist Involvement for SGA, Budd Nerone.
The kickoff of the celebration began on Jan. 10, Adele Day, with a food drive to help feed the hungry. Upcoming activities, which will continue through Feb. 16, include games, food and prizes They are also intended to serve as learning experiences for all students.
On Thursday, Jan. 19 a game show entitled, 'Where in the world is Father Chaminade'? will be held, which will take place in Artstreet Studio D at 6 p.m. This game will test students' knowledge of facts about Marianist locations around the world.
Next, on Monday, Jan. 23, Chaminade Day, multiple events will be held, including free hot chocolate and cookies around campus and a student potluck dinner held in the McGinnis Center at 6:30 p.m.
A major event that all students are encouraged to attend is Family FeUD, on Thursday Jan. 26, from 11-1 p.m. in Kennedy Union Ballroom. The game will include representatives from various organizations around campus competing against each other to answer UD trivia questions for prizes.
Students are also invited to participate in the 'Feed Your Faith' panel at 5 p.m. on Feb. 7 in Torch Lounge, a discussion intended to teach students more about Catholic life at UD.
A presentation that exposes what the Marianist philosophy will occur on Wednesday, Feb. 15 at noon in KU 310.
Finally, a tour that will reveal the history of the Marianists on campus will begin at the Statue of Mary on Thursday, Feb. 16 at noon.
All the programs are being coordinated by the Office of the Rector, who is collaborating with SGA as well.
