Flyer News Editorial: Valentine's Day is an emotional nightmare for many students
Valentine's Day is completely out of control.
It has become such a large and intense occurrence that it throws many people'regardless of relationship status'into a tizzy on what otherwise is a normal Tuesday in February.
This emotional whirlwind is revealed at its height among college students.
College students and teenagers are stereotypically characterized as lazy, indifferent and apathetic. This is simply not the case and nothing illustrates this more clearly than Valentine's Day.
People fall into four simple mindsets for this occasion.
Some do not care about the day, while others do very much. Certain individuals make it appear they do not care but, in fact, do, while others make it seem that they care a lot about it but, in reality, could care less.
It is terribly confusing and terribly unnecessary.
If you are single and in college, it does not mean you will die alone with only your cats to morn you.
If you are in a relationship in college it does not mean you are necessarily going to marry and have lots of children with this significant other.
In fact, your current relationship status really has little to do with much of anything. People break up and people date someone new. Sure, some meet their spouse before or during, but many do not meet them until after college.
Time is the only thing which will tell for sure who you end up with.
Thus, Flyer News believes society needs to learn to relax, especially around Valentine's Day. If you do not let it get to you, it will not. Simply force yourself to not let the hoopla affect you. Rise above it, if you will, and know that your life will take care of itself.
Just relax and everything will be fine.
Take our word for it.
