If you are interested in running for an SGA position, there are some big dates right around the corner.
SGA is holding its 2006 Spring Elections in March for Executive Officers, Class Senators, Minority Senators and Academic Senators.
There are two important election information meetings on Monday, Feb. 20 and Tuesday, Feb. 21. It is required that students intending on running for a position attend at least one of those meetings. Candidates can start campaigning after the second election information meeting.
All candidates must sign a contract and get a certain amount of signatures based on the position they are trying to obtain. The candidacy contracts and signatures are due by 3 p.m. on Feb. 24. Professional pictures of each candidate must be submitted via electronic copy to SGA by Feb. 25.
There are also two mandatory public meetings on Sunday Feb. 26. and Sunday March 5. At the March 5 public meeting each president and vice president ticket will be introduced publicly and given ten minutes to give a presentation of their platform and five minutes to answer questions. The other candidates will be given five minutes to talk about their candidacy. At the end of the public meetings the Election Committee will approve or disapprove campaign material.
'We need great leaders to run to help make the elections as legitimate as possible,' said Jeffrey Gustafson, Ghetto Senator and Elections Committee Co-Chair. 'Students should run for SGA to take more of an active role in the community.'
Elections will be held March 6 through 9. Visit SGA's Web site at sga.udayton.edu for more information.
