Response to Feb. 10 letter trys 'to clarify some things' regarding basketball tickets

Since everybody is in an uproar about the way ticket distribution for basketball games are done I would like to clarify some things.

This is only the third year for this system, so it's not out-dated and it's used by many major schools. When the system was designed, it was with strict guidelines given to a ticket committee by the athletic department. Every decision made by Red Scare or every change that comes about has to be run through the athletic department and approved.

When the system was designed, it was designed with the thoughts that UD Public Safety would kick people out of line until 7 a.m. Saturday morning. While, this has not happened as of recently, it could happen with a little push from the Athletic Department.

I agree with those CMM 110 students who stated, 'Those who wait in line for hours are constantly pushed to the back as the students join their friends at the front of the line.' This is unfortunate and the only way to control it is for those people in line who are getting pushed back to speak up and say something to those who are cutting to the front of the line.

While the idea of a loyalty point system is nice, it's not feasible at this point in time. I would love to have a loyalty point system in place, but the athletic department does not have the resources to put that in place.

The idea of a loyalty point system isn't new; it has been tossed around for years. The athletic department has said it will be 5 years before they will have the money to purchase something like the RecPlex has to swipe ID's.

I agree this ticket policy is not very fair and somewhat inefficient and that a loyalty point system would be fantastic and solve a lot of problems. However, I think it is important to know that Red Scare has thought of this before and pitched many ideas to the athletic department regarding ticket distribution. In fact, just this year I pitched a new idea for the Xavier game distribution to the athletic department and they shot it down.

Why you ask? Well, I was never given a straight answer (this is usually the case), but I can assume that it was for a couple of reasons.

Not only would it would require some people in the athletic department to spend time and effort on it, but it would require the athletic department to open their purse strings a little bit. This is why we do not have a different ticket distribution.

If you want things to change then everybody needs to make their voices heard to the athletic department (not Red Scare because the athletic department's marketing division is in charge) and demand a change.

The two main people who you need to contact are Kara Maicher and Katy Monnette (go above them if need be) and do not give up until you get what you want!
