Flyer News Editorial: Give ArtStreet another shot, FN did and so should you
Bookmark and Share
ArtStreet is now entering its second year and many of this university's students are still unsure just what to make of it.

Flyer News'as one of its harshest critics'is asking you, the students, to give ArtStreet a second chance.

As a part of the building boom taking place at UD in recent years, ArtStreet sought to bring something new to this university. Its goal was to provide UD's artistic community with a new home in which to live and work. This year, a new director of ArtStreet has been appointed with hopes to better help that goal succeed.

Susan Byrnes comes to ArtStreet highly qualified and with experience in the art administration field. Such experience is not easy to find in an applicant and hopes are high that she can bring a new excitement to the position.

She brings with her the hope ArtStreet will make a real difference in the community. It is just this type of attitude that is needed to make ArtStreet a real part of the UD community and not simply a structure that does not seem to fit in the Ghetto between Lowes and Kiefaber Streets.

Offering both living and work spaces focused on the Arts, this new location was supposed to change the way students looked at the world. Byrnes hopes to achieve that mission.

The new ampitheatre is a welcomed addition and has helped soften and enhance ArtStreet's appearance.

Questions,though still remain.

Will ArtSteet's function be able to out weigh its physical form? Will its usefulness make the students of UD forget how it looks? It is these questions that will ultimately decide ArtStreet's fate and determine whether or not it becomes a true part of the University of Dayton community.

ArtStreet is looking up, so give it a chance.
