Where can you go for live music, art, cornhole and free food on campus?

The answer is right in your backyard ' ArtBeat!

Adrienne Niess, Assistant to the Director at ArtStreet, explained the purpose of this celebration.

'ArtBeat was designed as a way to encourage the campus community to check out ArtStreet and all it has to offer,' Niess said. 'Last year's event was our first open house, and it was such a success, that we have decided to make it an annual event.'

However, this year's schedule of events is a bit different from the 2004 ArtBeat.

One major difference is the use of the brand new amphitheatre, as well as the now fully-operational ArtStreet Cafe, radio station and recording studio.

The focus of ArtBeat 2005 is undeniably the musicians set to perform.

The performances would not be possible without the help of StreetSounds, a student organization that runs the ArtStreet recording studio and are the 'sound guys' for the ampitheater.

The newly completed amphitheater will be broken in with the sweet sounds of live music from bands The Melting Room, The Porcelain Project, Greg Hansberry and The Goods.

Flyer Radio Production Director and Concert Board President Greg Hansberry will perform his original work at ArtBeat 2005.

'I will be playing original Indie rock songs that I have written, most of them are about the injustice of society's attitude toward Ian Anderson and his apostles,' Hansberry explains. 'I hope to gain awareness of this cause by wearing traditional 17th century apparel.'

In addition, free hot dogs and ice cream floats will be offered to ArtBeat goers. Free food is great, but don't forget the arts. A Henna artist, sponsored by Campus Activities Board, will be there to fulfill your tattoo fixations.

The visual arts studio will become a giant canvas where students will be encouraged to express themselves through drawing, writing, etc. Chalk drawings and art displays will also be there to appreciate, thanks to the Visual Arts department. If art isn't your passion, then you can play UD's trademark game, cornhole, provided by WUDR radio.

Niess encouraged everyone to come out for ArtBeat 2005.

'This event is going to be great fun.' Niess comments. 'Come check out the music and art, get some food, and bring your friends. It's a great way to kick off the weekend.'

Events are scheduled to kick off around 3 p.m. at the ArtStreet Ampitheatre.
