'The only thing constant in life is change.'

These are wise words from an aspiring young man by the name of Dekontee Lombell.

His story proves this quote to hold nothing but truth.

Lombell is a third-year communications major at the University of Dayton. What differentiates him from other CMM majors? Not every CMM major is opening up for well-know-rapper The Game.

D, as he is commonly known by his friends, has been earnestly working on his debut CD, 'The Notebook: Read Between the Lines,' for the past two years.

He started writing at the tender age of 14, using his rapping and writing as an outlet to help him cope with moving him from his native city of Minneapolis, to Rochester, N.Y., a decision made by his mother. D had lost everything familiar and was forced to accept the foreign surroundings, which he now called home.

'After moving, the majority of my freshman year, I wanted to go home so bad that I literally cried myself to sleep every night up until May,' said Lombell. 'I had no one to talk to ' crying wasn't changing where I was, I wasn't going anywhere.'

When faced with adversity, he made the best of the situation at hand and began to write and spit rhyme every chance he had.

He got better with time, and by the age of 16 he was appearing on radio stations in Rochester; including appearing on 98 PXY, and a commercial for 104 WDKX.

This all culminated in an opportunity to use a recording studio for the 'Friday Night Flavors Jam Sessions.' During his senior year of high school, he recorded his school's basketball anthem, which ended up being played before every home game.

'I want to get a buzz on my own, so it goes from me looking for a manager to a manager looking for me,' said Lombell.

He's currently managing himself. Financially, it was challenging to complete the record, but he feels it was well worth the effort and time.

'There's good music on there,' said Lombell. 'If you are looking to get your dance on, I got that. If you are looking to romance your lady, I got that. Basically you're getting a glimpse of the future. I'm about to be big.'

His prediction isn't far from the truth. Oct. 1, he will be opening up for rapper The Game in Rochester, N.Y.

Lombell met a concert promoter while waiting for his car to pass the New York State inspection. After giving the promoter his demo, he received a call two weeks later saying he liked what he heard and would give him 15 minutes to open up for The Game.

His CD, 'The Notebook: Read Between the Lines,' is completed and on sale.

It looks like one of UD's own community members is on his way to doing big things. From the man himself, 'I'm about to be big!"
