The Ghetto and the Darkside, what could be better? These two locations serve as some of the best areas at UD for the facilitation of community. It is this profound sense of community, as we so often hear, that makes the university unique. Without it, UD loses much of what makes it special.
Within these two neighborhoods, much freedom has been granted from the powers that be. But, as easily as this freedom is handed down, it can be taken away. This is why the Ghetto and the Darkside and everything that goes along with them need to be respected.
Leave the cars parked on the streets alone. Chances are very good that it may belong to a friend or a friend of a friend and respect is something that friends give willingly. No one likes to come back to find their car's rear-view mirrors broken off or antennas bent. 'Ghetto-wounds' are often a fact of life with parking a car in the Ghetto; try to make that saying history.
The house that you live in has far more history than you probably realize. Stories of mothers and fathers whose children have come to UD in their footsteps and live in houses where they once did during their time here should continue to be told. The deliberate destruction and abuse of houses will result in these stories coming to an end. You live in the Ghetto, your friends live in the Ghetto. In short, be cool with each other and the houses.
The administration will only entertain the student communities to a point. When that point is passed, they will cease to exist as we know and love them today.
This leaves a large responsibility in the hands of you, UD's student body. If you don't take some care of it, you may lose it. It's that simple. The administration has been given a preview of what UD can become academically and now they want to watch the film. On repeat'forever. So, if the Ghetto and Darkside are to remain the way they are, you, the students, have to show some respect.
