The Flyers traveled 850 miles to Florida Saturday only to lose 28-21 to the Jacksonville Dolphins, marking the Flyers third straight loss, which hasn't occurred since 1982.

Every game so far this season for the Flyers (3-3, 0-3 PFL) has been decided by seven points or less, and this game was no exception. What looked like a late game comeback ended with a Flyer fumble which the Dolphins (3-3, 3-1 PFL) picked up and ran in for a touchdown, sealing the game.

Dolphins' tailback Jerry Brant had a field day against the Flyers' defense, rushing for 224 yards on 35 carries, adding a touchdown to the final score. With junior quarterback Kevin Hoyng out due to a knee injury, it was the backup who would have to lead the Flyers. Although Flyers' junior quarterback Rob Florian had a good counterattack to Brant's rushing performance by tossing 411 yards through the air, the Dolphins' defense was able to pick off three of those passes, ultimately leading to the Flyers' defeat.

On a side note, Florian was only three yards away from the Flyers' single game passing yards record. Not too bad for his first start of the season.

The first half of the game was mostly a defensive stalemate, as the Dolphins had a 7-0 lead going into the locker room at halftime thanks to an 11-yard run by Brant.

After a quick score at the beginning of the second half, the Flyers trailed by 14. Later in the third quarter, junior fullback Ben Shappie pounded the ball across the goal line for a 4-yard touchdown run, putting the Flyers down by only one score.

However, the Dolphins were quick to respond, as quarterback Chris Horton hit wideout Nate Connor for a 47-yard bomb for another score. The Flyers had one more successful drive before the end of the quarter, as Florian hit senior tight end Matt Champa for 9-yard touchdown pass.

Down by only seven going into the fourth quarter, this was still anybody's ballgame. After holding the Dolphins on the following drive, the Flyers were able to tie the game up, as Shappie scored his second touchdown of the game, this time after a 3-yard run.

After some back and forth football, a deadly mistake by the Flyers cost them the game. A fumble by Florian deep inside the Flyers' territory was picked up by the Dolphins defense and carried in for a touchdown, putting the Dolphins up by seven. The rest of the game followed suit, as a Hail Mary pass by Florian was picked off in the end zone.

Looking at the bright side of things, the Flyers' receiving corps had a great day. Senior Carlton McFadgen finished the day with 136 yards on seven catches while senior Nick Ruhe finished with 159 yards on six catches. Champa ended up with 87 yards on four catches and a touchdown.

The Flyers will travel to North Carolina next week to take on the Davidson Wildcats (3-3. 2-1 PFL) and hope to get their season back on track before it's too late. If the Flyers lose this game, it will be the first time since 1974 that the team loses four games in a row.
