Fantastic five for your week nine fantasy squad
Bookmark and Share
Let's face it, fantasy football can be frustrating. While it doesn't take John Madden to predict that LaDainian Tomlinson will rush for 130 yards and two TDs week after week, most players' match ups leave fantasy owners questioning why they put themselves through the stress that is fantasy football. Here are some Week 9 match ups that should leave fantasy owners with hopes of still making the playoffs.

RB Fred Taylor vs. Tennessee

The University of Florida product has been in rare form the past couple weeks, showing fantasy owners glimpses of his abilities that have gone AWOL since the 2003 season. Taylor has racked up 298 yards and two of his three touchdowns this year in the past three games. This week Taylor and the Jaguars face a favorable match up against the 31st-ranked run defense as the Tennessee Titans travel to Jacksonville, Fla. Despite splitting carries with diminutive rookie Maurice Jones-Drew, Taylor has been a reliable fantasy back the past three games, averaging a whopping 5.8 yards per carry on his last 52 rushes. Look for that trend to continue this week as the Titans have completely failed to stop the run, giving up 162 yards per game and 10 touchdowns in only seven games, including a 116 yard performance last week to sixth-round pick Wali Lundy in Tennessee.

WR Lee Evans vs. Green Bay

The Bills' speedster has been held in check for the most part this season, scoring only one touchdown on 37 receptions in seven games. Although Evans has not found the end zone much this year, he has been surprisingly consistent, grabbing at least seven balls for 80 yards in four of his last five games, including three games against NFC North foes. This week, Buffalo hosts their final NFC North opponent when the Green Bay Packers head into town. Despite holding Anquan Boldin to only 47 yards on four catches last week, the Packers secondary has surrendered an average of 322 yards in their three road games this year. Look for Evans to be on the receiving end of most of those passes this week, as he leads the Bills' receiving corps by over 200 yards.

WR Mike Furrey vs. Atlanta

Who? The Northern Iowa product is my sleeper pick this week, facing an overrated Atlanta secondary. The former St. Louis Ram followed his former head coach Mike Martz to Detroit this past off season and has stepped up well as the Lions' No. 2 receiver. Furrey has caught 37 passes for 431 yards and three scores in seven games, pretty impressive for a guy that played defensive back last year in St. Louis. This week, the Lions battle a hot Atlanta team that has won two consecutive games against Pittsburgh and Cincinnati. Much of that credit goes to Michael Vick, who has stepped up as the leader of the Falcons squad and thrown seven touchdowns the past two weeks. The same can't be said for the Falcons secondary, which has yielded seven touchdowns as well. Last week the Falcons secondary allowed a combined 151 yards and a touchdown to the Bengals No. 2 and 3 receivers. Watch for Furrey to make the most of his opportunities in this potential shootout in Detroit.

WR Plaxico Burress vs.

Houston

The 6 foot 5 inch Burress looks to extend his touchdown streak to three games this week as the Houston Texans trek to Giants Stadium. Burress has been a delight for fantasy owners thus far this season, scoring in five of seven games. Eli Manning should look to exploit Burress' match up this week as the receiver faces 5 foot 10 inch Dunta Robinson in coverage. The Houston secondary has allowed 12 touchdowns through the air this season, tied with Miami for most in the AFC. Burress is a solid play for fantasy owners as he continues to show more consistency and faces a fantasy-happy defense in Houston this week.

RB Chester Taylor @ San Francisco

Despite being held to 22 yards on 10 carries Monday night against the Patriots, Chester Taylor ranks fifth in the NFC with 612 yards through seven games. Taylor netted huge yardage against Seattle and Detroit in the Vikings' previous two weeks and looks to rekindle that trend this week with a solid match up against the San Francisco 49ers. After Week 8, San Francisco is last in the NFC in rushing touchdowns allowed, giving up 11 through seven games. Taylor has only reached pay dirt twice this year, but fantasy owners should feel safe with him finding the end zone this week as the 49ers have given up six of their 11 touchdowns on the ground the past two games. More than 100 yards on the ground Sunday should not be out of the question for Taylor as well, as San Francisco has given up an average of 123 rushing yards per game this season.
