Late season fantasy football pointers

As the regular season heads towards its (bitter) sweet end, depending upon how your team has done, the 2006 fantasy season has yet shocked and awed many owners. Some highlights of the season include the complete undoing of Ben Roethlisberger week after week, the rookie of the year on the Saints not named Reggie Bush, another pass catching machine out of Hofstra, Marques Colston. Here are a few players who should have big games in week 14.

Phillip Rivers, SD: The quarterback of the LT and friends show has had a coming'out party this season putting up 16 touchdowns while throwing for 2600 yards. He has been extremely consistent for the better part of the season and don't look for that to change this weekend even with a pair of premier corners, Champ Bailey and Darrent Williams, attempting to shut down the high powered Charger offense. Can anyone stop the men who wear the powder blue?

Chad Pennington, NYJ: All those Jets fans who wanted the team to draft Matt Leinart have mysteriously disappeared. Behind a young, yet, rock solid, offensive line, Pennington has reestablished Laveraues Coles as one of the league's more explosive wide receivers and his consistent play is going to help make Jerricho Cotchery a rich man. Look for Pennington to exploit a poor Buffalo secondary at home Sunday.

Willis McGahee, BUF: Though he has not had a McGahee-like season, he always runs strong against the Jets. In bad weather in week three, he rushed for 150 against one of the league's poorest run stopping defense. Expect at least 120 yards and a touchdown, but the Bills still won't win.

Jerrious Norwood, ATL: One week after running wild over the Redskins defense, the shifty running back is seeing an increasing share of the work load in the Atlanta backfield lately and don't look for that to change this week against the Bucs.

Mike Furrey, DET: Last year a starting safety, this year in the top 20 receiving yardage leaders. Furrey could toast Fred Smoot for a big day, even in a Lions loss.

Devery Henerson, NO: Henderson will have his hands full separating from Anthony Henry or Terrance Newman, but without Marques Colston or Joe Horn in the lineup, he becomes the No. 1 threat in an explosive Saints offense.

L.J. Smith, PHL: For the first time all season, Smith went without a catch in the Eagles win. Do not expect that again. He should create matchup problems for the soft Washington D.

Pittsburgh DEF: Derek Anderson can't do that again, and he won't against a much better defense. Cleveland's next boy wonder will be rattled in Heinz Field. Even without Troy Polamalu, look for Ruben Droughns to be held under 100 yards.
