Campus HangoutsThe Hangar is home to many popular attractions on campus, such as The Galley, Flyer Enterprise' student-run snack shop. The Galley specializes in pretzels and milkshakes which cater to students' midday cravings. Bowling, pool and video games are offered. Dance Dance Revolution (DDR) is a cult classic game'it's not unusual to see a student work up a sweat from an intense round of DDR. In addition, comfy sofa chairs, TVs and computers make the Hangar an appealing place to spend both academic and leisure time, and was voted into first place in the Flyer News poll.
Humanities Plaza is a popular campus landmark. On warmer days, students can be seen studying, relaxing and socializing in the green space. It is a prime people-watching spot on campus. In short, Humanities Plaza is a nice place to kick back and take in all the scenery.
ArtStreet is a living and learning community in the heart of the Ghetto. The ArtStreet Caf?? offers an array of emporium-style sandwiches and beverages. Thursday nights the Caf?? has an open mic night ''Thursday Night Live'' for students to showcase their musical talent. ArtStreet has five multipurpose studios used for meetings, performances, exhibits, classes, and studying. Flyer Radio (WUDR) calls ArtStreet its home. The amphitheatre, popular for performances by UD bands, is a recent addition to the community.
KU Plaza is another hub of student activity. Students coming to and from class tend to gather in the Plaza. Mind what you do though'you're on camera! Many students are unaware that a Web cam is placed atop KU and is broadcasted on the Web. The statue of John F. Kennedy by the entrance is a daily reminder of KU's namesake.
Dining Halls
Kennedy Union Dining Hall is centrally located. KU offers breakfast, lunch and dinner Monday through Friday. KU is famous for its Belgian waffle maker. Students can make their own crisp breakfast treats in a matter of minutes. Friday afternoons, the Pub becomes a popular gathering place to start the weekend. All of these may contribute to KU ranking first among the dining halls in our poll.
The Emporium is UD's newest dining facility, opening in the fall of 2004. Located in Marianist Hall, this establishment offers deli and convenience store items. While not a traditional dining hall, students enjoy sitting in the caf??-like atmosphere in the adjacent dining area. Starbucks coffee was also recently added to the list of offerings.
Marycrest Dining Hall is located in the heart of the residence hall. The cafeteria offers a soup and salad bar, pizza bar, grill items, a sandwich station and a la carte items. The dining hall is famous for its friendly, eager-to-help staff, and caters to large numbers of freshmen during the lunch hour rush.
VWK Dining Hall is the destination on the hill. VWK is famous for its sandwich wraps and classic college all-you-can-eat buffet. Many students look forward to the VWK end-of-meal treat'soft serve sundaes. VWK is a favorite stop for freshmen and sopohomores who live on the hill.
UD-area Bars
Timothy's Bar and Grill on Brown Street is a popular hangout Thursday nights for the under 21 crowd. Timothy's, affectionately called 'Tim's' or 'TI's' for those who think the one extra letter is too hard to say, is a convenient walk for students living in the Ghetto. Tim's is famous for its drinks, dancing and regulars, called 'Tim's rats.' Tim's came in first in our poll.
The Fieldhouse on Brown Street is home to the 'fishbowl' drink. Fishbowls are a popular drink Wednesday nights when they're on special for $12.50. This large bowl of colored alcohol is served with several straws so students can share the experience sitting in the roomy booths. Thursday nights also feature $3 drinks which come with an exclusive cup. The Fieldhouse was a close second in our poll.
Flanagan's Pub on Stewart Street has the typical neighborhood bar atmosphere. Many students are attracted to the Thursday $1 well drink specials and live bands. Finger food is served during the day between 11 a.m. and 10 p.m. The bar is also well-known for their St. Patrick's Day celebration.
Milano's on Brown Street is known for pizza, calzones, Atlantic-style subs and live music on weekends. The $2.50 special on draft beer is also a point of difference. Its recent face-lift has attracted more UD students, and the establishment has gained quite a following, receiving votes for both favorite UD-area bar and favorite UD-area restarant.
University Shoppes
Chipotle on Brown Street, next to the UDF, is popular for the students who want a fast yet filling meal. Chipotle offers made to order Mexican style cuisine with fresh ingredients. Chipotle is famous for its industrial ambiance and quick service. These, among other reasons, may be why UD students voted it as their top choice for University Shoppes dining in the recent Flyer News poll, barely topping Panera Bread.
Students flock to Panera Bread on Brown Street for the freshly baked bread, hearty sandwiches, soups and salads. Panera also caters to the breakfast crowd, with a line of bagels and pastries. The line is always long with eager patrons on weekends. It was a close second in our poll.
The folks at Dewey's Pizza on Jasper Street satisfy the cravings of hungry UD pizza lovers. The pizzeria is a local establishment and features a selection of pizzas, calzones salads. Dewey's is designed as more of sit-down restaurant with a full wait staff to cater to clientele.
Submarine lovers frequent Penn Station on Brown Street for East Coast style subs in a casual atmosphere. The hand-cut fries are a popular side item that complement the made-to-order subs, which are prepared in front of you on a large grill.
