Irving Commons is disappointing, conditions and management very inadequate
Bookmark and Share
Having spent nearly a year in what the management of Irving Commons refers to as housing, I have come to a single conclusion: do not live in Irving Commons.

From the first day I was met with nothing less than incompetence. I, along with a group of eleven other people rented three adjacent units. Out of our group of three units, two were not ready on time and one had not yet been cleaned in time for move in. The condition in these units, as well as the response from the management of Irving Commons, was deplorable.

Nearly every problem we had, from a non-functional air conditioner, to a broken toilet, became chronic throughout the year as Irving Commons refused to invest in repairing anything in our apartment. Not only did they refuse to repair nearly any problem with our apartments but any attempts to contact the management of Irving Commons were met with hostility or virtually no response.

Even problems posing a risk to health and safety such as broken stairs, defective locks, and moldy carpet were not addressed at any point.

If the daily 'adventure' of living in Irving Commons wasn't bad enough, even after I completed my contractual obligation, the 'management' of Irving Commons continued to complicate my life.

First, the management of Irving Commons has been, to say the least, incredibly rude throughout this whole process, neglecting the duty as landlord to contact all of us about our security deposit after two weeks. Then through a series of inept accounting practices, our security deposits were delayed even further.

Now, only three months late, everyone in my unit has their security deposits back. To add insult to injury, despite the fact that our apartment was neither clean nor ready when we moved in, we were all charged cleaning fees.

In conclusion I, as former tenant of Irving Commons, urge you to consider any other option for off campus housing before Irving Commons.
