We would first like to thank our loyal fans for a great year of food reviews. We would also like to apologize to the fans for not drawing a fine line in the sand for the Burger Battle on Brown. For our final review, we went to Chicago Gyros and Dogs located less than a mile from UD's campus on the corner of Irving and Wilmington.

Chicago Gyros and Dogs considers itself the "unofficial" hot dog and gyros stand of UD. This can be seen once entering the eatery. The walls are draped with Flyer basketball posters, Flyer football jerseys and other UD gear.

The building can seat approximately 15 people inside and five outside. The outdoor seating has a great view of Wilmington Avenue.

For the most part, Chicago Gyros and Dogs is a carryout establishment that seemed to serve a large lunch crowd. Their menu features a variety of different hot dogs, sausages, gyros and other traditional street food. A couple unique items are the Fedyk and the Gyro dog.

The Fedyk is a hot dog topped with chili, cheese, mustard, onions, slaw and french fries. The Gyro dog is a hot dog topped with gyro meat, tomato, onion and tzatziki sauce.

If neither of these tickles your fancy, there are a lot tamer items on menu.

The pricing is extremely fair, with most fully loaded dogs priced under $4 and sandwiches priced under $6. A small side of fries is only $1.50 and is a very large portion.

Nathaniel:

There were many different items that caught my eye, but in the end I went with the old bread and butter and got the classic Chicago Gyro. It was a large portion of gyro meat served on a warm pita and topped with tomato, onion and tzatziki sauce. I also had lettuce added to mine. The gyro meat was spiced perfectly and sent little reminders of the meal every time I burped throughout the day. I have had many gyros in my time on this planet, and this one was up there with the best. There was nothing unique about this gyro; it was just executed perfectly. I also got a side order of french fries with my meal. The whole meal was incredibly filling and only $6. For this, I give it a 4.5 out of 5.

Brian:

After looking over the menu, I decided to go with the slaw dog, which consisted of a Vienna beef hot dog, poppy seed bun, coleslaw, mustard and onions with a small side of french fries. The dog was cooked perfectly, and the slaw and onions accented the dog and bun exquisitely. The poppy seed bun was a nice change from most dog restaurants in the area, which have a typical white bun. Overall, my meal was $4 and for the price, the quality and quantity of the meal was unreal. For this, I give Chicago Gyros and Dogs a 5 out of 5.

Overall:

Chicago Gyros and Dogs is a reasonably priced restaurant for the amount of food that you can get, and is located extremely close to UD's campus. It is well worth the drive or walk up Irving. For this final review, we give it a GO.
