M-Fest: misrepresented

As an avid reader of Flyer News and the treasurer of REACH Out With Active Minds, I was disappointed and confused while reading the article "Art, Awareness, Action." The article described the annual all-day art and music festival, M-Fest, which celebrates mental health. For the past seven years, M-Fest has been planned and put on by REACH Out With Active Minds, a mental health awareness service club. However, this article failed to depict REACH as the main contributor to M-Fest.
REACH Out With Active Minds was only mentioned once in the article, while describing the DaytonSecret exhibit. Only in the caption below the picture of Five Times August was REACH credited for sponsoring M-Fest.
The fact that REACH Out With Active Minds was not properly recognized for the work and time put into the event is hugely disappointing and unfortunate, especially after Flyer News was contacted twice about publicizing M-Fest.
REACH is dedicated to reducing the stigma surrounded by mental health by promoting education, support and understanding, and M-Fest is one of the biggest ways to do this on campus. As a UD service club, it is critical to have positive press to attract more participation, which is why it is so important for this mistake to be recognized.
While the article depicted M-Fest in a good light, proper credit was not given where needed. With the recent losses UD has felt, events like M-Fest, and the message it gives, serve to be more and more important.
