"The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee," which ran last March in Boll Theater, picked up seven merit awards at this month's DayTony awards.
The DayTonys, which award local, high school and college theater, gave "Spelling Bee" awards for Best Overall Production, director Gina Kleesattel and musical director Susan Carlock.
Recent graduate Michelle Olszewski won a Best Lead Actress award, the first time a UD student won for a leading role. Her costars Kelly Amshoff and Chris Poeschl won in the supporting categories, and "Spelling Bee's" entire cast won a Best Ensemble Acting award.
Kleesattel's next production at Boll will be "Smoke on the Mountain," premiering in March.
