In case you didn't know...
Sophomore shares advice for first years
Bookmark and Share
Returning for another year at UD as a more knowledgeable and savvy sophomore, I can hardly help but think back on my own experience at the beginning of last year. I must admit, having an older brother at UD who was a sophomore last year made it a lot easier. So what advice can I pass on to our newest and most innocent fellow Flyers?

Well, this is certainly not everything, but it's some advice that I feel an obligation to pass on to our 2010 freshman.

This is not Miami of Ohio. Do not dress up for class. Shorts or sweatpants are 100 percent acceptable and highly recommended.

General rule of thumb: Trays are completely unnecessary at the cafeteria, and only make it clear that you are new. Exceptions can be made for the Near and Far at Marycrest or other places when you have multiple plates.

If you go out to wander the Ghetto on a Friday or Saturday night, travel in reasonably sized groups. Most upperclassmen want to invite you to their porch, but it's hard if all of Founders is walking in one group down Lowes.

If you have more than 15 people in a freshman dorm room and music playing, you may as well wear T-shirts that say, "Dear RA, Write me up, please." And write-ups will kill you in the sophomore housing lottery. They also will take a lot of your money.

If you already read your summer book intently and took notes on it, it's too late for help on that one. Sorry! But they often are interesting to read.

There is a business in the middle of the Ghetto called The Deli. They do not serve sub sandwiches there. You can figure out what they serve on your own.

Get involved and meet as many people as possible. At UD, you will meet great people all over the place.

Welcome to UD!
