For the last couple weeks the question on many Flyer basketball fans' minds was, "Will he or won't he?". The concern of course was whether or not sphomore forward Chris Wright would enter his name in the 2009 NBA draft or return to UD for his junior season.
Wright announced this afternoon at a press conference that indeed, he will be staying put.
"I think as a program we're just scratching the surface of how good we can be if we work hard," Wright said. "I feel right now is not the best time for me to enter the NBA draft."
Men's basketball head coach Brian Gregory is certainly thrilled to have Wright back next year as well. "Chris has been such a big part of the program the last two years, and at the same time, he's a very humble young man," Gregory said. "When his family and myself sat down at the end of the season to get some information (from NBA personnel), he kind of set the ground rules for what was his ideal situation. Everyone wants to play at the next level, and Chris is going to be able to do that, I don't think there's any question. But he wanted to make sure it was the best time to do it, and he just didn't feel it was the best time."
Wright's decision makes it official that the only pieces the Flyers will lose from this season are graduating senior Charles Little and sophomore point guard Stephen Thomas who has chosen to transfer from Dayton.
