The Dayton Flyers headed into halftime with a 40-35 lead over Xavier with much thanks to the play of senior guard Rob Lowery down the stretch.
Xavier had pulled to within two points at 35-33 when Lowery stepped up and hit a three with under two minutes left. One the ensuing possession he stole the ball and called the timeout, and Dayton was able to get two free throws from Marcus Johnson.
Jason Love hit two foul shots from the stripe to close the scoring for the half.
Dayton will have to find offense from somewhere other than the three point line for the second half, as 5-7 is unlikely to be repeated.
