MINNEAPOLIS - So I found out this weekend that living the life of a sportswriter is awesome. Well, I've always thought it was a pretty cool gig, writing about sports and all, but being here at the NCAA Tournament really solidified it for me. Turns out, sophomore Chris Wright doesn't mind me, or other members of the media, either.
Yesterday afternoon immediately after the win over West Virginia, Wright was brought over to CBS broadcaster Len Elmore to talk about the game. After walking up the tunnel, he was brought to the post-game media room to stand on the podium and answer questions from hounding journalists. Once he got into the locker room, a guy from Sporting News Radio immediately handed him a phone to do another interview, with a line of more reporters waiting to talk to him after that.
Think he's getting sick of the attention?
"Somewhat, but not really," Wright said. "I mean, yeah it's a little more (media attention) now because it's the NCAA Tournament than usual."
But Wright understands us sports reporters.
"They got jobs to do, and if they don't get stories up, get interviews, that could probably hurt them," he said. "And a lot of them just love their job. I don't have a problem helping them out when they have questions."
And it was the same thing today at the media conference. Sportswriters from ESPN, USA Today and Sporting News all asked UD's superstar a handful of questions he's already heard and answered before.
Marcus Johnson and Charles Little sat next to him on the podium patiently as a majority of the questions were asked toward Wright.
What made you come to Dayton? Who else recruited you? The questions have been asked and asked again since the team landed in Minneapolis.
And as long as the Flyers' wins keep coming, so will Wright's answers to the questions he's already heard hundreds of times.
