Crime Log - February 19, 2008


The following incidents were reported to the Department of Public Safety between Jan. 28 and Feb. 5, 2008.

Theft

Jan. 28, 3:31 p.m.

Officer Parmenter met with a student at UD police headquarters regarding the theft of a Tangent laptop on Dec. 12, 2007. The student said someone stole the computer out of his car parked outside his landlord-owned residence on Lowes Street. He left it inside his car when he went inside for over an hour. He returned to the unlocked car and it was gone. He did not report the computer until the insurance company advised to do so.

Criminal Damaging

Feb. 2, 12:09 p.m.

Officer Russell was sent to a UD-owned residence on Brown Street on the report of a broken window. He met with a 21-year-old UD student who said that a known person had broken the living room window. It happened sometime between midnight and 1 a.m. Feb. 2 during a party at the residence. The residents know who broke the window and the subject said he would pay. Officer Russell advised the residents to work out the problem on their own.

Criminal Damaging

Feb. 3, 1:46 p.m.

Officer Parmenter was dispatched to S2 parking lot regarding a damaged vehicle. He met with a UD student standing with her silver Volkswagen Beetle. The student said she parked her vehicle in the lot around 3 p.m. Jan. 27 and upon returning around 9:30 a.m. Feb. 3 found someone had damaged the driver's side rearview mirror. The mirror housing was broken away from the body of the vehicle. There was no evidence of how it was done.

Theft

Feb. 3, 5:20 p.m.

Officer Barber was called to a residence on Kiefaber Street on the report of a theft. He met with the UD alumnus who said between 8 p.m. Feb. 2 and 3 p.m. Feb. 3 someone had stolen the rear license plate from his vehicle, parked on Kiefaber Street. The license plate was Ohio registered. Officer Barber advised the alumnus to call the Bureau of Motor Vehicles to inquire about replacing the plates. Dispatcher Wheeler entered the registration.

Criminal Damaging

Feb. 5, 2:43 p.m.

Officer Durian was dispatched to an apartment on Lawnview Avenue on a criminal damaging report. He met with a 21-year-old UD student who said his 1992 Toyota had been damaged. He parked it Jan. 20 near the entrance of the Campus South parking lot and returned Feb. 3, noticing the front right tire was flat. The vehicle was towed and a puncture mark was found. The cost of replacing the tire was around $48. There are no suspects or witnesses.
