Crime Log - March 11, 2008


The following incidents were reported to the Department of Public Safety between Feb. 25, 2008, and March 2, 2008. This log was compiled by Flyer News from actual police reports obtained from the Department of Public Safety.

Petty Theft
Feb. 25, 12:22 p.m.

Officer Parmenter was dispatched to a room in Marianist Hall on the report of a missing backpack. The 19-year-old UD student said he took his blue Jansport backpack to a friend's room Feb. 15. It remained there when the men left and he returned a few days later to pick it up from an unlocked room. When he got there the property was missing. The backpack contained a Detroit Lions hat and 80 gigabyte iPod. It all is valued at about $250.

Criminal Damaging
Feb. 29, 5:50 p.m.

Sergeant Swank was dispatched to the 400 block of Kiefaber Street on a complaint of criminal damaging done to a vehicle. He met with an 18-year-old female student who said that someone damaged the mirror of her 1998 maroon Chevrolet Blazer, registered under her father. Swank observed that the driver's side mirror and housing were broken off and hanging from the door by an electrical cord. There was no damage on surrounding vehicles.

Criminal Damaging
March 1, 9:18 a.m.

Officer Russell was on his patrol route when he saw a black vehicle's rear view mirror lying in the street of the 500 block of Lowes Street. He found that the mirror had broken off of a 2001 red four-door Pontiac Grand Am parked in the rear of a residence on Evanston Avenue, RP 8 lot. He contacted the car's owner who said that the mirror had been broken off between 11:30 p.m. Feb. 29 and 9:18 March 1. The cost of the broken mirror is estimated at around $100.

Burglary
March 1, 11:33 a.m.

Officer Foreman was dispatched to a room in the Sheehy wing of Stuart Hall on the report of a theft of two Tangent laptop computers. He met with the 19-year-old male complainant, who said that he went to sleep the night before around midnight in his unlocked room. When he woke up around 10 a.m. he saw his and his roommate's computers were missing, along with a brown leather ID wallet and two baseball hats worth $35 each.

Criminal Damaging
March 2, 4:15 p.m.

Officer Ryan was dispatched to a house on Kiefaber Street for a criminal damaging report at 5:06 p.m. March 2. The 19-year-old female complainant said that she had parked her black 2004 Ford Explorer in front of a residence on the Kiefaber block Feb. 29. The female said that she noticed the passenger side mirror of her car was missing at 3:15 p.m. on March 2. She completed a written statement and received a case number for the incident.
