Crime Log - April 01, 2008


The following incidents were reported to the Department of Public Safety between Feb. 29 and March 7, 2008. This log was compiled by Flyer News from actual police reports obtained from the Department of Public Safety.

Petty Theft

Feb. 29, 1:28 p.m.

Officer Russell was dispatched to the S2 lot on the report of stolen gasoline from a UD student's vehicle. He met with the complainant who said someone had siphoned gas from her car. Upon arriving at her car she had noticed the gas cap at the left rear fender was not laying flat. There were pry marks and scratches, and the gas gage showed she had one-fourth less gas than before, leading her to believe someone had stolen her gas.

Grand Theft Auto

March 2, 5:20 p.m.

Officer Ryan was dispatched to VWK on the report of a stolen vehicle. The 19-year-old male UD student said his 1989 red Jeep Cherokee was missing from the SV parking lot. He said his friend had parked his vehicle in the lot Feb. 29 and upon returning March 2 the vehicle was missing. Officer Ryan and Officer Cloyd checked the University's parking lots for the vehicle and could not find it. They contacted local law enforcement agencies for leads.

Criminal Damaging

March 5, 1:22 p.m.

Officer S. Durian was dispatched to S2 lot on the report of a criminal damaging. He met with a 20-year-old male UD student who said he had parked his brown Pontiac Grand Prix in the lot near the RecPlex. There had not been damage done to it March 2 but upon returning March 5 he found his driver's side mirror detached from the vehicle. The student did not know who his insurance company was and said he will fix the damage himself.

Criminal Damaging

March 7, 9:07 a.m.

Officer Russell was dispatched to O'Reilly Hall on the report of criminal damaging. He contacted a 23-year-old male ROTC member who said someone damaged two doors leading to a ROTC firing range. Sometime between 8 p.m. March 6 and 5 a.m. March 7 someone forced a metal object into the doors' locks, making it impossible to use a key to unlock the doors. The ROTC member said there appeared to be pry marks on the doors.

Criminal Damaging

March 7, 9:08 p.m.

Officer Weber was dispatched to meet with a UD student at a residence on Chambers in reference to a broken window. He met with a 21-year-old female UD student who said that her bedroom window had broken. When she was in her bedroom an unknown person threw a snowball through the second floor bedroom window. It broke and she alerted maintenance of the damage. They said they would repair it next week. There are no suspects at the time.
