Crime Log - April 22, 2008


The following incidents were reported to the Department of Public Safety between April 3 and April 17. This log was compiled by Flyer News from actual police reports obtained from the Department of Public Safety.

Criminal Damaging

April 3, 1:33 p.m.

On April 3 at 1:33 p.m, Officer S. Durian was dispatched to the RP-14 parking lot on the report of a theft from a motor vehicle. Upon arrival, a UD student stated she parked and locked her maroon 1995 Toyota Corolla in the RP-14 lot at the rear of 60 Chambers Street on Sunday, March 30. She returned to her vehicle on the 3rd and observed her passenger side window was shattered and the dashboard around the radio had also been pulled away from its housing and was hanging from its wires. The dashboard area that was damaged also contained her air conditioning and heating controls. The only item missing from the car was the faceplate to the in dash CD player, although the CD player was still inside the dashboard area. The student doesn't know the make or value of the CD player faceplate. The student is insured by State Farm Insurance and would be willing to file a claim. The cost to repair the damage is unknown.

Theft

April 14, 10:44 a.m.

On April 14 at 8:00 a.m, Officer Foreman was dispatched to Woodland Avenue in the University District to pick up a found University of Dayton staff ID card. Upon arrival, the reporting person was gone and the dispatcher radioed that the ID card had been taken in a theft along with the victim's purse. Officer Foreman contacted the complainant, a UD staff member in Chaminade Hall. She had received an e-mail stating that a UD student had found her ID in an ally by the Children's Center on Alberta. She checked under her desk and her purse and cell phone were missing. The black leather purse was valued at $35 and included a black or maroon wallet ($20) two ATM Debit Cards, one from Day Air Credit Union and the other from the 5/3 Bank, a silver National City Visa Credit Card, four store credit cards from Kohl's, Macy's, Elder Beerman's and JC Penny, her Ohio license and a silver cell phone from the Sprint Nextel system. The ID card was returned to the complainant.

Thefts

April 17, 11:12 a.m.

Officer S. Durian was dispatched to Alumni Hall on the report of a stolen license plate. He met with a UD staff member whose front plate of a Marianist owned 2005 blue Chevrolet Malibu was missing. He does not know how long the license plate was missing or if it was lost or stolen. The front licensed plate number will be entered into L.E.A.D.S. The staff member will contact the person in charge of Marianist vehicles to obtain new license plates.
