Simple Assault
November 20, 3:01 a.m.
Sergeant Snyder and Officer Zoerb were dispatched to a residence on Irving Avenue on the report of a Dayton Fire Department ambulance responding to an assault victim who was unconscious on the sidewalk. They arrived within a minute and, not finding an unconscious person, went to the rear porch and located a resident of the house. The resident stated that his roommate had been knocked unconscious by a person whom he did not know, and directed the officers to the bathroom where his roommate was washing blood from his face. The victim denied that he was injured and would not leave the bathroom, at which point Sergeant Snyder physically assisted him out of the house. The victim continued to insist that he was not injured and did not know why an ambulance had been called. His lower lip was split and bleeding and there were abrasions on his face. His roommate and his girlfriend said that the suspect had slammed the victim's head against a board attached to the rear of the house as a result of an altercation. The victim had then fallen, displayed signs of seizures, and been unconscious for over a minute. The victim appeared to have consumed alcoholic beverages and denied any memory of these circumstances, but agreed to be examined at the emergency room. Two witnesses said that during the party that had been going on at about 2:30 a.m., a male whom they believed to be a freshman argued with the victim and was asked to leave. The individual then returned with two other males, one of whom slammed the victim against the side of the house before the suspects fled.
