Crime Log - January 31, 2006


The following incidents were reported to the Department of Public Safety between January 23 and January 26. This log was compiled by Flyer News from actual police reports obtained from the Department of Public Safety.

Criminal Damaging

January 23, 8:50 a.m.

Officer Foreman was dispatched to Alberta Street after receiving a report of damage to a vehicle. Upon arrival, the officer spoke with the complainant who stated that someone had broken the right rear window of her vehicle, a 1999 black Audi A4. The stereo had already been removed from the vehicle by the owner before it had been parked for the night, and nothing was reported stolen. There are no known witnesses, but an arrest was made in SV lot for a similar offense.

Burglary

January 26, 1:11 p.m.

Sgt. Montgomery met with Dr. Mary Morton, Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences, in reference to a theft of university property. Morton stated that on Jan. 25, her house was burglarized. Items that were taken included the master key to O'Reilly Hall, the master key to the Arts and Sciences office, the master key to the biology department in Sherman Hall, a cell phone that had been leased through UDit and a UD parking pass. Morton said that she has already filed a report with the Dayton Police Department.

Criminal Damaging

January 26, 2:45 p.m.

A UD student flagged down Officer Arnold on Kiefaber Street to report damage to the front window screen of his residence. The student stated that he and his housemates were at a bar when the damage occurred. Residential properties was notified of the damage.

Petty Theft

January 26, 2:59 p.m.

Officer Parmenter was dispatched to the bookstore in Marianist Hall after receiving a report of a stolen book bag. The complainant stated that when she entered the bookstore, she had placed her light blue book bag in one of the cubbies at the entrance. When she went back to retrieve it, it was missing, and she immediately reported the theft to the bookstore staff. Upon review of the security camera footage, it was discovered that a heavyset female entered the lobby, picked up the book bag, and left immediately. The only item of value reported to be ion the book bag was a Sanyo flip phone, valued at $80.

Theft

January 26, 7:22 p.m.

Officer Cloyd met with a UD student at Benisek Hall in reference to a book bag that was taken from the bookstore in Marianist Hall. The student stated that she had placed her red Jansport book bag in the corner on the floor because it will not fit in the cubbies. The student stated a total loss of $846. An e-mail received by the bookstore regarding the thefts of bags described a female with a large build wearing an oversized winter coat. The identity of the suspect is unknown.

Theft

January 26, 11:39 p.m.

A student met with Officer Jolly in the lobby of Benisek Hall to report the theft of a cell phone. The student stated that she had left the cell phone on the front porch of her residence on Kefaber Street and when she went to retrieve it later in the evening, it was missing. The phone, a gray Verizon Wireless camera phone, was valued at $250. There are no known suspects or witnesses at this time.
