Crime Log - March 10, 2006

The following incidents were reported to the Department of Public Safety between March 2 and March 5. This log was compiled by Flyer News from actual police reports obtained from the Department of Public Safety.

Petty Theft

March 2, 10:46 a.m.

Officer Arnold met with a UD student at Benisek Hall regarding a stolen bicycle. The complainant stated that he parked his blue Roadmaster bicycle on February 20 on the bike rack in front of the Frericks Center, and it was missing when he returned to retrieve it. He stated that he waited to report the theft while he attempted to locate his bicycle at several locations on campus. When he was unable to locate the bicycle, he was advised to file a theft report with the university police department. The bicycle, valued at about $80, is a blue and white 26' Roadmaster mountain bike. There are no known suspects or witnesses at this time.

Criminal Damaging

March 4, 4:35 p.m.

Officer Cloyd was dispatched to Stonemill Road on a report of a broken window. The complainant stated that at around 10 a.m. on March 4, he was leaving his residence and noticed that the rear living room window was broken. Upon his return at around 1 p.m., the complainant found a glass Ball jar containing applesauce on the living room floor. This appeared to be the object thrown through the window. The jar was handled by a number of people at the residence, opened, and thrown away. The cost of repairs is unknown and there are no suspects or witnesses at this time.

Criminal Damaging

March 5, 11:48 a.m.

Officer Russell met with a complainant, who is not a UD student, at Benisek Hall regarding criminal damage to a vehicle. The complainant stated that an unknown person damaged his company car, a green 2000 Ford Focus. He stated that sometime between 9 a.m. on March 4 and 11:30 a.m. on March 5, someone knocked the passenger's side rearview mirror off the vehicle, leaving the mirror hanging by the remote wires. The vehicle had been parked on Lowes Street. There are no known suspects at this time.

Criminal Damaging

March 5, 2:17 p.m.

Officer Russell was dispatched to Kiefaber Street on the report of criminal damage to a door. The complainant stated that sometime between 1 a.m. and 2:30 a.m. on March 5, an unknown person broke out the bottom Plexiglas window of her storm door. The complainant stated that the front door to the house was unlocked and standing open, but nothing was missing from the residence. It appeared that the window in the storm door had been broken from the inside. There are no known suspects at this time.

Burglary

March 5, 5:35 p.m.

Officer Orrill met with a UD student at Benisek Hall on the report of a burglary. The complainant stated that she had returned home at approximately 5:30 a.m. to her landlord-owned house on Lowes Street. She stated that she heard a noise coming from the living room area of the house and went out to inspect the area. She observed a thin, balding black man, approximately 40-50 years old, crawling through her house and into her room. She stated that she observed the male reach for her roommate's desk, at which time she screamed and attempted to wake up her roommate's boyfriend. When she and her roommate's boyfriend searched the house, the suspect had already left the area. The complainant stated that nothing had been removed from the house. She also stated that the back door of the residence was unlocked. There is no reason to believe that this incident is at all linked to reports last week of a male entering houses in the student neighborhoods.

Information in this report was obtained from a Safety Advisory e-mail sent by Randall Groesbeck of Public Safety on March 6.
