Crime Log - September 07, 2007


The following incidents were reported to the Department of Public Safety between Aug. 22 and Aug. 29. This log was compiled by Flyer News from actual police reports obtained from the Department of Public Safety.

Theft
Aug. 22, 5:14 p.m.

Two students met with Officer Barber with a complaint of stolen property. Over the summer a window air conditioner, porch swing, bookshelf and sorority letters had been taken from their sorority house. Contractors had been working on the inside and outside of the house all summer. The girls had contacted Residential Properties to find out if the items were in storage or not. The two students are waiting to hear back from Residential Properties.

Burglary
Aug. 26, 3:36 a.m.

Officer Fritz responded to a report of an assault on Kiefaber Street. The suspect had left the scene traveling on Lawnview Avenue in a Chevy Impala. Fritz drove to find the vehicle and saw it heading westbound on Irving Avenue. He stopped it on Oakwood Ave. Officer Orrill and Officer Cloyd arrived to help with the suspect's arrest. He began to struggle as they placed him in the rear of the car. The victims arrived to confirm that the man was the assaulter.

Petty Theft
Aug. 27, 8:00 a.m.

Officer Durian met a UD staff member at College Park Center in response to a theft complaint. The victim had left a bag of items in the Virginia Kettering residence hall main desk Aug. 23 for her daughter, who picked up the bag that afternoon. She spoke with her daughter Aug. 26 and found that not all of the items were in the bag. It was missing two black printer cartridges and six blank CDs. The total value missing is $60 and now there are no suspects.

Grand Theft Auto
Aug. 28, 10:14 a.m.

Officer Durian was dispatched to a house on Chambers Street to investigate a report of a stolen vehicle. The male UD student said his 1989 Buick LeSabre had been parked in RP-14 lot on Woodland Avenue two days earlier. At 8:30 p.m. on Aug. 27 it had still been in the spot. Officer Durian contacted Sandy's Towing and found that they had the vehicle. It had been burned and had no license plates. The Dayton Police had towed it after they found it earlier.

Attempted Grand Theft Auto
Aug. 29, 7:31 a.m.

Officer Jolly met with a UD faculty member at Frericks Center after a report of attempted auto theft. The 1992 Chevrolet Caprice, used by the university's football team, was parked in P lot and had steering column damage. The team last used the car the day before at 3 p.m. The ignition was off the steering column and the driver side's window was rolled down. The car could not be started with a key. There are currently no known suspects in the case.
